Rainbow Mountain
After 2 days in Cusco and no time either side of our treks it was now or never for Rainbow Mountain. We voted now! We booked through our hostel for the next day. They picked us up at 3:30am and we had a couple of hours drive to the restaurant for breakfast. After a lot of pancakes and coca tea we drove for another hour and a half to get to the mountain. We got there and prepared for the journey by choosing a team name of ‘Super Hikers’ given to us by our guide Paco. I was ext

5 days in La Paz
Our next stop on our S. American adventure, was Bolivia, more specifically La Paz. We were quite apprehensive on visiting La Paz. Firstly because of stories of corruption, kidnapping and robbing but more recently because of the political instability at the time of our visit. They had just held a general election, with result meaning the current President Evo Morales keeps power. Many in Bolivia were unhappy with the election, feeling that the voting was rigged. This caused p

Manu Amazon Jungle Trek
After our epic Salkantay trek, we had one day to recover and jump straight onto our Manu Trek for 4 days and 3 nights. We took this trek as it is in the Manu National Park, located on the outskirts of the Peruvian Amazon and seemed to offer a lot in a short space of time. Pick up from Milhouse Hostel was early (6.00am) and took us to the small rural town of Paucartambino, where the Mamacha del Carmen festival which takes place in February which dates back to the 17th Century

Machu Picchu (5day Salkantay Trek)
This was number one on our bucket list. In fact, our bucket list started over 4 years ago on safari in Tanzania and we both agreed, this had to be done. So it is fair to say, this was hotly anticipated. As Machu Picchu was a definite on our trip, we booked before we went (you can book when you arrive in), acting as the '2 months away' marker on our adventure. We have included some tips at the bottom of this article that we found useful or wish we'd done. We booked our trip t

Santiago in 4 days
Our time (for now) in Chile ended in Santiago. We spent 4 nights in the capital and honestly didn't know what to expect. We hadn't heard good nor bad of the City, so we entered it with open eyes. Being located on a fault line makes Chile the most seismically active country in the World. Santiago is a fantastic geographical example of this. The City is located on a plain and surrounded by mountains, providing a truly spectacular setting. Arriving from the airport, we recommend

How we did Chilean Patagonia (Puerto Natales and Punta Arenas) in 7 days
Our 5 hour coach journey took us to into Chile (technically for the 2nd time on our trip but the first was spent in an immigration office). More specifically into the town of Puerto Natales, a small holding set in the Patagonian Andes. We stayed for 6nts (some for rest after our whistle stop tour of El Calafate and El Chalten). Our host, Diego, from Last Hope Hostel could not do enough for us and made our stay, one of the most comfortable yet! On our first day, as has come cu

El Calafate and El Chalten in 4 days
Our 15 hour coach journey from Ushuaia took us across the Magellan Strait where we were treated to seeing a pod of dolphins and also via Rio Gallegos, a town Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid held up a bank in. We eventually arrived in El Calafate, we were knackered, arriving at our hostel at 1.30am. Now being honest, we hadn’t even heard of El Chalten before we set off on our travels, but based on the advice of alot of people, we needed to go. So we squeezed it into our eve

Ushuaia: Our Journey to the End of the World
2 years ago, if you had asked me where Ushuaia was, I would have said it was a pool party in Ibiza, such was my lack of knowledge and experience. If you were to ask me now, I would describe it as a playground for adventurers at the tip of world! We had read up on visiting Ushuaia and many blogs had suggested 2-3 days, no more. Personally, I would recommend a week minimum. We don't think you can fully appreciate the place in a short space of time. In fact, it should be visited

Buenos Aires: Our time and guide
Our travels through Argentina took us to the capital... Buenos Aires. Named by the Spanish, it means 'Fair Weather' which is in ode to the safe passing the travellers had across the Atlantic when they landed on these shores. This was one of the Cities we e most excited about with it's red wine, flare, steak and tango and it didn't disappoint. We started our journey into BA through a walking tour of the City (an activity we both have found a new love for!). The City has aroun
